Distributed Energy Resources
Since the time of Thomas Edison, the model for supplying electricity consisted of huge central generating plants connected to consumers via thousands of miles of transmission and distribution lines.
The electrical system of the future will rely less on central generating plants and rely more on a concept termed Distributed Energy Resources (DER) where many smaller electricity sources are spread throughout the system.
DER is typically “behind-the-meter” electricity generation and storage located on the consumer’s property and supplying some or all of the consumer’s electricity needs. DER helps to reduce the need for large power plants and lessens growing loads on existing transmission and distribution lines. Having many, local electricity sources increases the reliability and resiliency of the electrical system and, in many cases, can result in significant financial savings for the consumer.
ENGIE MEP Services Northeast is your single-point resource to discuss DER opportunities anytime you are considering energy efficiency measures (EEMS) or an energy audit. As one of the Northeast’s largest MEP contractors and being related to a broad-scope energy company, we have the technical, energy and financial resources to deliver DER projects of all types.
Distributed Energy Resources include:
- Local generation
- Combined heat & power (CHP) systems
- Back-up generators
- Gas turbines
- Fuel cells
- Steam turbines
- Renewable generation
- Wind turbines
- Solar photovoltaics
- Energy Storage
- Large-scale battery storage
- Ice thermal storage
- Chilled water thermal storage
- Demand response
- Automated response systems
Many DER projects integrate closely, supplementing or replacing, a building’s largest energy consuming systems such as boilers, chillers and HVAC. In other words, they are major construction projects.
We can handle your DER project as a design-build, design-assist or with your preferred engineering team.
Because many DER projects are promoted by utilities and government financial incentives, you want to work with industry leaders experienced in project and energy financing. We are part of a power and energy group that has delivered nearly $15.4 billion in energy savings globally for consumers in the last 12 years.
